    You hope that a hurricane, wildfire or other catastrophic weather event won't happen to you.

    But if it does, we want to help you prepare, stay safe and recover, so that your life gets back to normal as quickly as possible.

    Our Claims representatives will walk you through the claims reporting process and our specially trained catastrophe team is always ready to travel into impacted areas to ensure claims are handled quickly and efficiently.

    The Claims Process

    It’s important that you contact us as soon as possible after you sustain damage. Here are some key steps in the claims reporting process:

    • File a claim by phone, online or through your independent agent. A Kemper Catastrophe Claims Representative will contact you to set up an inspection of the damage, typically within a few days.

    • Take photos and/or video of the damage. This will help your adjuster during the claim settlement process.

    • Provide your adjuster with as much detail as possible about your property and belongings as they were before the weather event, sharing an inventory if you have one.

    • Keep track of expenses. If you have expenses due to the damage, such as a hotel stay because your home was uninhabitable, keep track of receipts.
    • Check claim status. You can monitor the status of your claim by calling 866.536.7376.

    Catastrophe FAQ

    Q. What can I do to prepare for my adjuster’s evaluation?
    A. You can survey the exterior of your home to see if there’s damage and if so, take photos. Also, gather an inventory of your belongings that were damaged and relevant receipts.

    Q. Should I repair anything while I wait for my adjuster’s evaluation?
    A. No; it’s important that you wait for your adjuster’s evaluation and recommendation for a contractor. Importantly, be sure to ask your adjuster what you can do to prevent damage from worsening until it is fixed.

    Q. How do I choose a reputable contractor?
    A. Your adjuster will be able to help you assess your damage and identify a reputable contractor; Kemper has an approved network of professionals who will provide a warranty for their work.
