Authenticator Setup Instructions for 2-Step Verification

Authenticator apps generate secure, time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) to be used as a verification method when logging in to your account. To begin the Authenticator setup process, follow these instructions according to the device you are using to link your account to an Authenticator app.

    From a Mobile Device

    Step 1 - Download an Authenticator app to mobile device

    • If an authenticator app has not already been installed, download it from your mobile device’s official app store. Examples include Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator

    Step 2 - Link Authenticator app to your account using either option:

    Option 1 - Link Using QR Code

    • In the authenticator app, tap the Add Account + (plus) button
    • Select the option to Scan QR Code. Use your device’s camera to scan the QR code shown on the agent login screen
    • Once the QR code is successfully scanned, the app will automatically link to your account and start generating TOTP

    Option 2 - Link using manual entry

    • Instead of scanning, tap on the Enter Code manually (or Can’t Scan Image) option in the app
    • From the agent login screen, click “Copy Key” to display the secret key
    • Carefully type the setup key provided to your app (ensure that the key is entered exactly as shown)
    • Upon entering the correct key, the app will complete the linking process and begin generating TOTP

    Step 3 - Enter Confirm successful setup

    • In the authenticator app, locate the generated 6-digit code (This code refreshes approximately every 30 seconds)
    • Enter the current 6-digit code from your app into the designated field
    • Click “Verify”
      Not on a Mobile Device

      If you are not using a mobile device to link your account, use a Token Generator to generate a TOTP.

      Step 1

      • Open a new browser window
      • Go to a Token Generator of your choice such as danhersam.com, authgear.com, etc.

      Step 2

      • Return to the browser window with the agent login screen
      • Click “Copy Key” located under the QR code to copy the secret key to the clipboard

      Step 3

      • Return to token generator and paste the key
      • Ensure the number generated contains six digits
      • Copy the 6-digit code provided

      Step 4

      • Return to the login screen
      • Paste the current 6-digit code into the designated field
      • Click “Verify”

      Once the code is validated by the website, the authenticator setup process is complete. When selecting Authenticator as the 2-step verification method, you will be required to use the generated codes on subsequent logins.
